La Noche en Blanco in Malaga
Don’t you agree on the fact that new adventures are the best way to learn? Well it is only two days left before the weekend starts and we have to think about what we are going to do to create these new adventures. Have you once danced on the streets while sunset? Or have you once been in a museum at 2:00 in the night? If you are staying in Malaga this weekend you might prepare yourself for a spectacular evening on Saturday the 14th of May after which you can cross of these two things of your bucketlist… The city organizes a festivity called “La Noche en Blanco”.
“La Noche en Blanco” is a yearly festivity taking place in May. It is a night full of art, music and culture. Every year the night has a different theme and this year was the first year the inhabitants of Malaga could decide which one by voting on their favourite theme. There were four themes of which they could choose: A tribute to the 200th birthday of Cervantes, a night to sing, the night of the stars, or the night of the future. Some drumrolls please… And the winner is…… The night of the stars!
During this night of the stars you can go to 250 free cultural events throughout the whole city. The festivity starts at 20:00 and we advise you to start visiting the popular museums, like the Picasso museum and the Carmen Thyssen museum, for free! By visiting these museums first you will avoid the enormously long rows due to the free entrance.
Walk afterwards via different streets to the Alcazaba. The streets will all be crowded by musicians playing their songs or covers, street theatre and artists showing their newest art collections. When you arrive at the Alcazaba your mind will be blown! This old Moorish fortress is beautifully lightened which will give you a feeling like you’re staring in your very own fairy-tale. You don’t have to worry about the time since the night lasts until 2:00. You can do everything on your own speed and I am sure you have enough time to see a lot and join some free events.
Malagueños truly love this “Noche en Blanco” and you will find them unquestionably singing and dancing in the streets. Don’t be surprised to see children staying up until the end of the festivity as well since there are plenty activities arranged for them during the night.
