Paella: one of the most famous main dishes of the Spanish cuisine. When you are in Spain it is a must to try one! There are many varieties spread out over whole Spain and each paella requires its own way of preparation.

It has its origins back in the fifteenth and sixteenth century and there are many stories about its origin. One of them relates to the farmers. Farmers in the rural areas needed to prepare easy meals with ingredients they could easily catch or find. Those ingredients often were rabbits, birds and the fresh self-grown vegetables. This was the beginning of the existence of this typical dish. The seafood paella arouse in the rural areas of Valencia. They developed a tasty and delicious alternative for the paella of the farmers in the rural areas. Another story dates back to the War of Independence with a French general and a Spanish women playing the main characters. The Spanish women worked in the kitchen of the general. He was so impressed by the paella that the women made for him that he decided that for every new dish of paella, he would free a Spanish prisoner. Every day the women tried to create a different one and due to this there are many kind of paellas. They even say that she set free 176 prisoners! Enough about the origin.
